It takes a couple of minutes. Open the Slack PowerUp in itemit, click Connect with Slack and authorise itemit in your Slack workspace. You are then asked to invite the bot into the channel that should receive notifications by typing /invite @itemit in that channel. Once the bot is in, itemit picks up the channel automatically and you can choose which events to send.

No. The integration sends notifications one way, from itemit into Slack. Approving, editing or checking items back in is done in itemit itself. Keeping it one-directional means your asset records cannot be changed from a chat window by anyone who happens to be in the channel.
That depends entirely on which event types you enable and how busy your register is. Item created, updated and deleted alerts are the noisiest on a large workspace, since every edit counts. If a channel gets too busy, turn individual event types off in the PowerUp settings.
The integration uses Slack's standard OAuth authorisation flow, so itemit never sees your Slack password. You can revoke access from the PowerUp settings in itemit, or from the apps section of your Slack workspace admin, and notifications stop immediately.
